Overall, a really enjoyable book that gave me a good laugh. The writing was difficult for me to get used to but now I’m quite happy with it. There were points when the writing or jokes just didn’t land for me. Unfortunately, being off the heels of a Robin Hobb book, it was difficult for me to enjoy the book at times. I really enjoyed this guy and as an intelligent ruler who knows to handle even the worst of crowds, he has my respect. However, the best character, alongside Vimes would have to be the Patrician. Also, the dragon being female was a welcome surprise to me.Įvery scene the guys spoke about there being no dragon, I actually laughed and thought to myself look above you, you idiots. I’m an idiot, but I didn’t notice that the Supreme Leader in that shady club was actually that guy who took away Vimes role as captain of the guard. I feel like the story was very well handled as far as plot twists go. And she had a way larger role than I expected.Ĭarrot was a joy and absolutely hilarious when he tried to arrest every single person. Dragon enthusiast was not my first thought. On some other threads about best romance, I saw Vimes and Sybil pop up a lot so was curious as to what she was like. Speaking if Sybil, what a wonderful character. He has a heart of gold and deserves love that Sybil gave him. Honestly, it took me a while to get into Vimes as a character because his first few appearances were a but hard for me to read, with that drunken talk. In just that short passage, I got an idea of what every character would be like: dumb, funny, thinks they are intelligent, and stereotypical. This was most evident in the first section with those brothers who were attempting to summon a dragon.
